Blackhawk (26-2) basketball is set to reach new heights thanks in part to one tall guy.
Freshman Caleb Furst, fresh off winning the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week award, hopes to put together one more star performance to help lead his Braves to Bankers Life.
Rewind back a few months, and this freshman was truly fresh to the high school game.
After a season full of firsts, Furst is already becoming one of the top players in the state.
Teammate and senior Drake Thompson has battled with Furst in every practice this season.
"I've seen him grow a lot more, and I am excited for him," Thompson said at Thursday's practice in preparation for semi-state.
Senior point guard Jalan Mull loves what he's seen from the kid that he's known, since before high school.
"The whole team has better chemistry with him," Mull said.
A win on Saturday means Blackhawk advances to the state title game for the second time in program history, which would be Caleb's, well, you know.
Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Huntington North against Southwood (24-3).
